By pressing the trigger of grip, metal arm moves backward which engages with side release to start camera running. The mechanical pistol grip was designed by Bolex so that the camera could be hand held safely and to allow operator easily start running using just one. Once this is screwed into the cameras forward mounting tripod, you lower camera onto rapid attachment plate. MECHANICAL PISTOL GRIP FOR BOLEX H16, Hand holding a Bolex H16 camera without hand grip is possible but difficult and uncomfortable.

A small movable lug on the right hand side of grip is positioned flush against camera to prevent movement after its been attached. The grip can be used when the Register is present and camera put into continuous running position. Two little metal switches, one at the back and front, regulate how far arm can travel thus affect triggering functions grip perform.
