Both tubes are brass and originally were nickel-plated. Heres a super sweet shutter that is pride of any photo collection, Swiss watch early shutters, sorta speak. Made of all brass, this one definitely has some patina to it, and honestly I wouldn't clean that at all, unless you're really going dive in restore it 100%. What is nice that it still has one original Water house stop with it, and the same serial number stamped into at shutter.

The driving spring though is indeed either broken or missing one would find out when it was opened up, and so the blades must be closed by simply turning large wing nut on top. Good luck buying. What is extra nice that its not seized up and frozen - shutter blades do open close very smoothly. Basically the function of this shutter could rather easily be restored, but it would take someone with knowledge springs to do so, and I'm not that person.

One comes off easily, while the second one is stuck on there and would take some solvent patience to loosen up. I always do my best to describe the items as accurately can. The whole shutter measures an impressive 7in long and 3in wide, not including the controls. Thury and Amey are known in Geneva, one as an electrical engineer founder of thees Chevron factories, other a mechanic.

Thread in the shutter is about 60mm wide, while threads on ends of tubes are 52mm. You can also see that there are still two extension tubes left on it, that's where front and rear elements of some lens would have been screwed onto. It does need a good cleaning and some mechanical work, but overall I'd say it fared well through the last 140 years.
